A first for me, after a long shift at the office, I collected Jason at 11pm and we set out for a hike I've previously completed a number of times, but this time for a different reason. Arriving at around midnight in the suburb of Mt Cooke, we set off on a short hike onto Sullivan's Rock.

Part of the previously conquered Mount Cuthbert and Mount Vincent hike, on this occasion we didn't feel the need to walk any further, because this time we were here for some star gazing. More accurately we were here to watch the Delta Aquariids Meteor Shower. Very visible in the southern hemisphere, spanning a month of activity but at its highest frequency on Sunday the 29th July 2019.

I also had a chance to try out the new EOS R at astrophotography. It was easy. Capturing a meteor was not so easy. We were better off because there was no moon to deal with, but the milky way did bring a lot of light. Great usually but when you're trying to photograph a split second streak of light, not so helpful.

Needless to say, mission accomplished, I counted 12 meteors in total and managed to find evidence of three of them in my photos by the time we departed at 0330hrs, plus I made a short time lapse, featuring no meteors. Still, a first for me.

Note: I think I may have rushed the post processing of the shots. I feel like they're a little bit dull. So I re-did one and much happier with it!
