If you intend on travelling to Esperance from Kalgoorlie you'll come across Kambalda and Norseman. If you travel down the Goldfields highway, south out of Kalgoorlie you'll first come across Kambalda. This was my second trip there and honestly it was ok. We visited the lookout first (as is mandatory), Red Hill Lookout, then walked along a trail which doesn't really signify where it was going. The walk provided views of the surrounding salt lakes, but it wasn't terribly exciting or gave any indication of where it was leading.

Being the lookout it did offer some views of the surrounding industries, mainly salt lakes.

Half way between Kalgoorlie and Esperance is Norseman, and critically it is the turnoff for the Eyre Highway, that heads to South Australian and the border town of Eucla. There's a pleasant tourist drive that takes you past the biggest gold mine in town to...another lookout, the Beacon Lookout. This one is a bit better than Kambalda so I sent the drone up.

We snooped around a bit, took some photos on foot and then stopped at the Full Moon Cafe on the main Norseman high street. It is the best Thai restaurant in Norseman. Also saw a covid related Wanted poster of Mark McGowan (the premier of Western Australia).

One the way to Esperance, was the town of Scaddan, which although tiny, had an information bay containing a full and detailed written history between 1910 and 2010 on one of it's displays.
