No visit to Kununurra is complete without a stop in Lake Argyle. We arrived at the Kununurra Caravan Park with just enough time to grab lunch at the restaurant and a quick drive to the nearby scenic lookouts before jumping on the scheduled boat trip onto Lake Argyle.

The boat tour was the KD2: Kimberley Durack Sunset Explorer, shuttlebus departing the Caravan Park at about 2pm, and the boat departing the ‘jetty’ at 2:30pm. $95 per person for adults.

Our guide and captain was Tracy, who steered us south, then east through the bay of islands. The water was so incredibly still in place, it made for some very cool reflective photos.

Our first official stop was for some Kangaroos on a nearby island and sleepy fresh water crocodiles. Last stop was for the sunset swim in the warm Lake Argyle water. Everyone keeps reminding us of the 20k fresh water crocodiles in the lake, and the size of it in units of Sydney Harbours. It was a good relaxing swim in luke warm water with a generous supply of noodles from the boat. The floaty, not delicious kind.

We stepped back onto the boat as sunset had already started, giving us a chance to dry off on the way back.

We woke up early the next day for a very short hike up the hill. The effort reward ratio was excellent, the hike taking only taking about 20mins to reach the top of the hill. We stayed at the top until the sunrise had completed and then returned to the Caravan Park to enjoy the swimming pool.

Took the drone for a spin for some appreciation of the area!

Lake Argyle was simply magnificent and I would recommend anyone in this part of the world not to skip. That last photo was taken from a 180 degree panorama, taking advantage of the fish eye effect and stitching the photos together!
