On Saturday night, rather than go into the city to socialise with the cool kids, Jason and I decided to head to the city to spend some time on some night time city photography. I'd just received my new Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 lens and was pretty excited to try it out! It would have been great for the astrophotography the week before, but apparently meteor showers are not very flexible when it comes to scheduling.

As soon as we met up I made it clear to Jason that photography was a secondary objective to eating waffles. Our first stop was South Perth foreshore (just round the corner from the waffle place).

We setup below the Narrows Bridge and managed to get a couple of photos the city on the opposing shore before the rain forced us to waffle time.

After the waffles, we propped up on a cycle bridge that crossed the Kwinana Freeway, and though it turned out better in my imagination (I thought we might have some sort of cityscape in the background), the end result was OK. Not the most creative but some clean lines and a great chance to hone the manual setting skills.

We headed east to Gloucester Park, the easiest accessible part to the river directly opposite the new Optus Stadium. It used to be the case that you could photograph the Optus Stadium completely un-obscured. That is, until they built the Matagarup Bridge. Apparently folks were so outraged that this bridge was being outsourced to another country (Malaysia), the contract was cancelled, given to an Australian company, resulting in the budget doubling to something like $95 million. Apparently climbing the bridge as part of a tourist attraction is on the cards at some stage.

Our last stop was an oldie but goodie. Kings Park, viewing the city. I took a few photos between the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 and the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 and love how they turned out.
