On my last walking day in Perth I went east. I had to pick up a cash prize from a radio station over there and decided to make a thing of the ‘east end’. First stop, walking east, passing new favourite Martini Bar Poole’s Temple, the Perth Mint, and what feels like all the skyscraper apartment buildings in Perth, was the ‘i’ve passed it many times, but never stopped in’ inner city park Queens Garden, next to the WACA.

Easily accessible on foot from all directions, Queens Garden is simply put a well manicured garden, with a bunch of ponds, plenty of wildlife and designed in such a way that for a few moments inside, you almost forget you’re in the middle of a massive metropolitan city.

After the gardens, I looped past the Ozone Reserve, along Langley Park and back onto St George’s Terrace past the Concert Hall. Now I’ve walked past the Government house a bunch of times, always peering over the wall, but I never realised that they actually opened the gardens every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between noon and 2pm.

Almost opposite, on the north side of St George’s Terrace, was the appropriately named St George’s Anglican Cathedral. Big church, lots of fancy lighting, fancier stained glass windows and some interesting conversations made for a very relaxed visit. There are no donation boxes, just contact-less pay points with fixed donations, cheeky.

For anyone curious, I got photos of the outside on another blog post, but if you can’t be bothered…
