Another impromptu trip - a welcome continuing theme for my holiday in the UK was a trip to Welney Wetland Centre near Wisbech. A suggestion by my parents in the late afternoon.

I’d never been, but they spent most of the visit trying to recollect when they’d last been. Many years ago, but no exact date. It’s a mystery.

I went with my trusty new Sigma 10-20mm lens. A terrible decision when it comes to taking photos of birds and insects at a distance, but still it works in small spaces. I brought along my telephoto lens, a Tamron 70-200mm lens, which performed well, but lacked a bit of reach.

At £7.90 per adult it didn’t break the bank. We walked through the information centre and over the bridge into the conservation zone. There, we had the choice of a number of viewing platforms and hides to sit in, to watch the birds, none of which I could identify. I don’t know birds, but those that do, surely love this place.

Saw some dragonflies, wasps, was harassed by horse flies and took some photos, of birds, in the distance. Good day out. I lived in Cambridgeshire for over 10 years and never knew of this place.
